Benefits of the PHD Program in Berkeley
Benefits of the PHD Program in BerkeleyIf you are a new Ph.D. student in the class of 2020 and you have not yet decided to do a research on Heterocyclic amines, or HCAs, your next step may be to apply for the UROC Berkeley Chemistry Ph.D. degree. The professors at the University of California, Berkeley, have not only given the graduate students on the Berkeley campus the chance to be involved in research, but they also give the students the chance to complete projects to better their education and to earn a Ph.D. after a few years of lab work.If you have not yet decided to complete your Ph.D. in Chemistry, you might be interested in knowing how the PHD graduates in Berkeley chemistry can use the experience of the program in Berkeley to enhance their professional careers. PHD students have the opportunity to participate in projects which will further their education and increase their exposure to other disciplines. This could include a dissertation project on one of the natural proces ses involved in a newly discovered material, which the graduate student will then use in his or her own research, for the purpose of improving the understanding of the material. There are three phases of the PHD program which are of great interest to the graduate students. First, the graduate students in Berkeley's program learn about the methods used in the study of the materials used in laboratories all over the world. Students are able to better understand the processes used in studying the compounds used to make different chemicals. The second phase of the program provides the graduate students with the opportunity to use these processes as models in the future projects they conduct. The third phase of the PHD program is the one most likely to be used by the students in their future research and that will allow them to gain experience in more than one field of study. This will also be useful to students who have a strong interest in the study of the biology of these compounds. The students also gain experience in using their skills in their future career as a researcher. The PHD program has an equal number of students in the class of 2020 that are waiting to complete their PHD in Chemistry. The students who decide to earn a PHD can still be admitted to the UROC Berkeley chemistry Ph.D. program, and can make use of the materials given in the PHD Physics program. But the students who have decided to pursue a Ph.D. should carefully select a research project which will be used as a model for the research they will conduct in the future. It is important to realize that there are a few restrictions on the PHD students when choosing their projects. They should remember that this is a four-year program and will take longer to complete, as they will have to study all of the lab procedures involved in research and then do a large amount of lab work in order to gather the data which will be the basis for the dissertation. These are the benefits of the PHD program in Berke ley. By participating in research projects, the PHD graduate students will gain experience in researching the materials used in the labs all over the world. The benefits of the PHD program in Berkeley include the opportunity to have the students gain experience in the different fields of study in which they have an interest and to be better equipped to prepare a dissertation on one of the natural processes which occurs when certain compounds are used in laboratories all over the world.

Simplest Form Fraction
Simplest Form Fraction Fraction is usually written in the p/q form. Here p is the numerator and q is the denominator. The denominator of a fraction cannot be equal to zero i.e. q not equal to zero. Fraction are very commonly used and very important form of representation of numbers. Fraction are included in different equations expressions in numerical and algebraic expressions. Some fractions can be further simplified according to the requirement. Different mathematical operations can be used to simplify and solve a given fraction. Example 1: Simplify the fraction 300/250 to its simplest form? In the given fraction 300 /250, 300 is the numerator and 250 is the denominator. The fraction can be further simplified. Factoring the numerator and denominator gives: 300 = 2 * 2 * 3 * 5 * 5 250 = 2 * 5 * 5 * 5 Now when these numbers are written as fractions there are some common factors. Therefore cancelling the common factors 300 / 250 can be written as 6 /5. Hence the simplified fraction of 300 /250 is 6/5. Example 2: Simplify the fraction 28 / 40 to its simplest form? In the given fraction 28 /40, 28 is the numerator and 40 is the denominator. The fraction can be further simplified. Factoring the numerator and denominator gives. 28 = 2 * 2 * 7 40 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 5 Now when these numbers are written as fractions there are some common factors. Therefore cancelling the common factors 28/ 40 can be written as 7/10. Hence the simplified fraction of 28/40 is equal to 7/10.

Songwriting 101 Using the Long-Line Concept
Songwriting 101 Using the Long-Line Concept Megan L. One of the most wonderful and rewarding things about the art of songwriting is that there are many different ways to approach making your own music. Arlington,TX music teacher Ric F. previously shared with us his tips on using rhythm as a guide to writing. Today, Ric would like to add another aspect to your understanding of writing songs, something he calls the long-line concept. Unlike visual art where you can see it all at once, music takes âtimeâ to reveal itself. Today I would like to talk about the âlong-lineâ concept. Long-line does not mean the music has to be âlongâ or a âlineâ (melody). Any of the elements of music may be used as your primary element. In songwriting it is usually the melody. The result that you want is to be able to get from here (beginning) to there (end) giving your listener a sense of completeness and natural progression. Many elements go into accomplishing this, but your ability to write horizontally will greatly help you. As a songwriter and teacher, I preach this because I have noticed that many students are no longer taught this concept due to a number of reasons. One is⦠Technology I use lots of technology and love it! But I learned my craft before the technology we currently use developed so I am a bit old school in my work. Technology allows us to bring up a digital score or get our hands on sounds by way of multiple keyboards and find ourselves in this position⦠Many students come to me with a digital score (i.e. orchestral) with two or so measures full of notes from the top stave down to the bottom and say something like this: âI love these two measures but I donât know where to go from here â" Iâm stuck!â I also have students come with a recording of two or so measures of a song, completely produced and say the same. Answer? They did not conceive the song as best they could from beginning to end. They did not determine an element that could help them get the long-line, thinking âhorizontallyâ. They thought âverticallyâ and thatâs why theyâre stuck! Before going further, let me say that what I am talking about is not a rule. How you write your music is totally up to you, and all composer-songwriters have different processes. If you can play your melody with no accompaniment and it holds your listeners interest from beginning to end, you have something! As a teacher I use melody because it is something that anyone can create. You do not have to be an instrumental virtuoso to write a melody. Letâs proceed⦠As an example, below is the structure of an instrumental song of mine that was recently recorded and released. It has these sections: Intro (A) section: Presentation of the melody in basic âverseâ form (B) section: 8 measures. Melody range higher. The 5th measure is the âhookâ (higher the melody has been building toward this moment) Vamp Note: The Intro has no melody. The (A) section has melody in a lower range. The (B) section has melody higher in its range leading up to the âhookâ where the melody is at its highest point. The âVampâ has its melodic element in the accompaniment. It is a motif based on the melody and not essential as a melodic element. If you play the melodies of these sections in succession they will stand up on their own â" as a song. The âmelodyâ is my long-line. It is what drives the song from beginning to end. Assignment Use this simple song form (simple does NOT equate bad!) to write your own composition. (A) = 8 measures / (A) again, maybe some small changes / (B) something different, yet related / (A) again, perhaps exactly as the first (A) section or slightly different. Write a song with melody as your long-line. Ric F. teaches songwriting, music recording, and music theory in Arlington, TX. Guitar Theory Your Secret Weapon
Guitar Theory Your Secret Weapon Sign up successful I learned scales and the names of the notes on the guitar, but I never saw the connection. Learning guitar theory has taught me to know the key Im using to play. When you know the key, you know the appropriate notes. If you know the appropriate notes, you can avoid the sour notes! This is incredibly useful to improvise a guitar solo. Theory is important for guitarists for many reasons. Im sure youve had moments where youve thought wow that riff sounds great, whats a good bass line to play over that instead of the root notes? Guitar theory can help you in these situations. Knowing the key tells you what type of notes to play, what type of chords to create, and how you can manipulate chords to tailor your style. How to Use Guitar Theory Take a look at a G major barre chord. Your first, third, and fourth finger play a G power chord, playing the notes of G, D, and an octave G. Continuing with the rest of the chord, your second finger plays a B note. Your first finger then barres the rest of the third fret, covering another set of notes: D and G. * So collectively, playing a G major chord is simply playing a combination of octaves between the notes of G, B, and D. G,B, and D are the first, major third, and fifth of a G major scale, otherwise known as a major triad. So if G,B, and D are taken care of in a G major scale, were left with A, C, E, and F#. So, G-1, A-2, B-3, C-4, D-5,E-6, and F#-7th. Not only do we have seven notes to choose from if we want to solo in G major, we can also use these seven notes to see what kind of chords we can make in G major. Every chord we play in G major HAS to have those exact notes. Not Eb, not C#.. the only sharp note is the sharp F (start looking at the circle of fifths linked with the article). Heres a video to help you understand how to play a G major barre chord: As we go along the G major scale, lets list the types of chords for each note: G is obviously major, A is minor, A major would have C# as the third, but we need to keep our C natural since were in the key of G major. Next is B minor, again Eb would be the third of B major, but we need to flat that major third to D to stay within G major. Keep applying the rules to each note; eventually, you can list your chords for G major like this: G Major A Minor B Minor C Major D Major E Minor F# Can be diminished, augmented (a lesson for another time). Now, within any of these chords, you can manipulate single notes to create different versions of a chord. For example, the G major. G, B, and D. How about we throw in an F# to give it a sweet, major seventh sound? More: Guitar Theory Basics: Understanding Keys Use Guitar Theory to Learn New Songs Another reason I like guitar theory is because you can use it to learn a song by another artist. When you know the key, you can When you know the key the artist is using, you can see when he or she might step out of a key, or change a melody to activate the rules of theory. I love this because it gives you an opportunity to learn from your favorite guitarists and recognize when they challenge the art of writing music. This is the most valuable part of guitar theory (in my opinion); its such a great tool to use to learn from others. Guitar Theory: Your Secret Weapon Theory is almost like the language of music, and when you know theory while listening to your favorite songs, you can understand the artist and see what he or she is telling you through melodies and chords. Work with your teacher and ask about guitar theory. Then, its up to you to listen and learn technique, styles, and methods from your favorite songs and artists! Post Author: Morgan S. How to Get a Better Singing Voice 7 Strategies to Use
How to Get a Better Singing Voice 7 Strategies to Use Sign up successful Another breathing exercise to try: begin by breathing inward for a count of four, then exhale for a count of eight. Keep increasing your exhales by counts of four until you reach 24 or 28 (or as far as you can go). This exercise teaches you how to control air. For more elaborate breathing exercises, consult your vocal coach. Take Private Singing Lessons If youre wondering how to get a better singing voice, the easiest strategy is to work with a professional! Singing lessons are the most effective way to improve your singing voice and maximize your potential. But remember, most students are only as good as their teachers. This means that youll have to find someone who knows the ins and outs of singing. A qualified teacher can teach you exactly how to practice, how to establish proper breathing techniques, as well as the ideal singing posture and healthy singing habits. Although singing lessons are a financial investment, think of all the time that the experience will save you in the long run. Instead of seeking knowledge and advice by hunting around the Internet and teaching yourself how to sing, youll have an expert guiding you along at the right pace. Find Your Voice One critical mistake that many beginning singers make is to copy other artists styles, which doesnt allow you to build your own singing style. If youve started out by imitating another singer, you should be aware that the habit will have to be dropped at some point. Your own unique style and mindset go a long way in determining what your ânormal singing voiceâ should sound like. Your singing voice will never completely match another persons, so its smart to spend some time figuring out your own style! Find the Drama Good singers convey emotions to their audience. They use their voices to tell dramatic stories and explore feelings. In a way, singing is a form of acting. You have to conjure up feelings and emotions for the performance, even if you arent genuinely feeling those emotions during those specific moments. The best advice is to have fun with it, and your audience will see your passion! Maintain Your Health As a singer, your body is your instrument so take special care of it! Alcohol, for example, can dehydrate you and your voice, so many singers avoid it. If you consume milk or other dairy products, wash them down with water, as dairy leaves a coating on your throat. Avoid overusing your voice, belting without proper technique, or yelling, as all of these can hurt your vocal cords. Conclusion Above all, you have to work hard and work smart. This means practicing effectively and regularly, and never sacrificing proper technique. Also, sing in front of others and ask them for honest feedback. Youll never improve if you arent open to constructive criticism! Use the above strategies for how to get a better singing voice, and keep on practicing. Good luck! Interested in Private Lessons? Modern Italian was formerly a vernacular language, meaning that it was only spoken in certain c ommunities within the country. To make sense of this linguistic evolution, weâll have to go back to antiquity. A period when the Roman empire controlled a large part of Europe and when the Latin language was at its peak.Just like its cities, Italy's language is full of remnants of the Roman Empire ¦ source: Pixabay - LoggerWigglerNow considered to be a dead language, Latin was used throughout the Roman empire and continues to be used by the Catholic church. However, it is possible to distinguish between two types of Latin.Vulgar Latin or Sermo Vulgaris was the register of language that was spoken by the people, with classical Latin being reserved for science and literature. After the fall of the Roman empire, invasion separated Italy into several regions. This separation also caused the spoken language, Vulgar Latin to evolve into different dialects. It wasnât until 1861 that Italy reunified and declared the beginning of the Kingdom of Italy. To bring the citizens of the new country together, the government decided to choose one dialect as the official national language. At the centre of the boot, Tuscany had made itself an attractive region for many as a cultural and economic hub, and it was its dialect that triumphed in the decision for an official language. From 1859, Italian schools became free, and children took their classes in Italian. So, Italia is a relatively young country, and some families in the South even continue to use their regional dialects to preserve their heritage. Why Italian is the Language of LoveFrench and Italian are usually both considered to be romantic languages, however, even the French seem to agree that Italian comes out on top.The Italian vocabulary is immensely rich, meaning you have far more choice when it comes to finding an affectionate name for your loved one!Amore, caro, tesoro⦠there are more than enough Italian expressions to use when youâre making your move. Not only is the language itself a beautiful one, Italian pronu nciation is also considered to be incredibly appealing.Rich and charming, the Italian language is also regarded as the language of the Mediterranean sun and the sensual atmosphere it creates. The warm vowels of Italian pronunciation which help to accentuate the words and the rolled ârâ sound are what makes the Italian accent so melodic. And the romanticism doesnât end there.Italy is the setting for the most famous love story in the world: Romeo and Juliet. Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.Shakespeareâs Romeo and Juliet tells the story of two teenagers from Verona, in the North-West of Italy, who desperately try to keep their forbidden love a secret from their families, who are sworn enemies.Does Italy inspire you as much as it inspired Shakespeare? ¦ source: Visualhunt - JimTiffinJrThe story is one of tragedy, but remains a symbol of true love all over the world â" just like the city of Venice.Venice is the capital of love, where couples from all over the world spend their holidays and honeymoons in celebration of their love.Several surveys have shown Venice to be one of the top holiday destinations for couples. Venice is just one of Italyâs romantic hotspots, which also include Florence, Siena, Pisa and Turin.Italian Pronunciation and IntonationIf you already speak other romance languages such as French, Spanish or Portuguese, making good progress in your Italian learning is a bit easier. The Italian alphabet is more or less identical to the one used in the other romance languages, and a lot of the words are easily recognisable thanks to its Latin roots. However, properly pronouncing Italian words is the part of learning Italian that people find to be the most difficult. But why is this the case?If youâre encountering Italian as a beginner, it can be difficult to know where to place the accents on words as youâre prono uncing them.Native speakers of British English tend to accentuate the major words in each sentence, even when speaking a foreign language.Using the tonic accent (or stress) is an essential part of speaking Italian. This accent features in the vast majority of words, usually on the penultimate syllable, meaning that in practice, you should apply more stress towards the end of each word.Sometimes, itâs not the penultimate but the final syllable which is accentuated, but this is indicated in the spelling of the word in question. One such example is the word, papa.On the other hand, when this accentuation is placed on the antepenultimate syllable, it isnât indicated, so youâll have to rely on your own memory for these intonations instead!Accentuation is also important for maintaining a good level of comprehension.Stressing the wrong syllable can completely change the meaning of the word youâre using. For example, saying papà (meaning dad) without stressing the final syllable can easily become papa (meaning the Pope). The other difficulty with the Italian language, which is also the case with Spanish, is properly rolling the ârâ sounds. As native speakers of English, we are often tempted to make this sound from behind our teeth with our lips, however, to be able to correctly pronounce the Italian ârâ, you must train yourself to roll your tongue.I would advise that you practice this sound wherever you go. Itâs not enough to do just a few hoursâ practice per week if you want to learn how to speak Italian and be able to properly make this sound. Some people get do it on their first try, whereas others find it more difficult.Repeat the exercise in the morning when youâre getting ready or during your commute to work. You may feel a bit silly in the beginning, but rest assured that it will start to feel more natural as you practice.Search for Italian courses London to find your own private tutor.Speaking Italian to Share Your Passion for Italian Culture Has the charm of the Italian language made you fall in love with the Italyâs culture? Are you thinking about signing up to an Italian language course or one to one tutoring?Learning how to speak Italian is also about discovering a new culture. As the home country of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, Italy is known for its prominence in the art world, and its most famous works cannot be avoided if youâre studying the history of art in depth. The Mona Lisa - probably the world's most famous portrait - is the work of Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci ¦ source: Pixabay - Free-PhotosAs the European centre of art, itâs no surprise that Italy triggered and led the Renaissance which took place all over Europe.
